Snowdrop Garden
The Snowdrop Garden sits just inside the gates at Poole Cemetery in Dorchester Road. It is a very special place for so many people. A place that is now fully secluded for parents and families to spend precious time with their babies. There are seats to sit on, a shelter from bad weather with views of Poole Harbour in the distance, stout fences and a Lych Gate giving complete privacy. All this has been provided by a very small but dedicated group of volunteers from S.P.R.I.N.G. These volunteers now continue to maintain the snowdrop garden once every month (always the first weekend alternating between Saturday and Sunday). This is not a chore it is always a very enjoyable and satisfying task. It usually takes a couple of hours at most, with a stop for coffee and chat. We are always looking for further help to share the load and would welcome anyone coming along for the first time. For further information please contact us

S.P.R.I.N.G. Suite
The S.P.R.I.N.G. Suite is within Poole Maternity Unit, Ante-Natal Ward. This is a very private and safe environment for families experiencing problems within a pregnancy. The suite was officially opened in June 2002 after listening to the needs of families at such a sad time. It is self-contained with a bedroom with double bed, an en-suite bathroom and a small lounge area with tea making facilities and fridge to accommodate families for however long they need to make use of the suite. The feedback has been very positive with most families commenting on what a difference it has made to them. We have been involved in the planning of bereavement care within the proposed new Hospital for Women to be built in Poole within the next few years and have been assured that the needs of bereaved families will be met.

Kingston Lacy Ward
S.P.R.I.N.G. has refurbished the counselling room at Kingston Lacy Ward (B2) which is used by parents who encounter problems during the First Trimester of pregnancy.
It was decided in consultation with some of the staff on the ward (B2) to hang some pretty voile at the window to soften it. Their wish list included pictures, a mirror, a table and a lamp and some cushions.

We hope that this will make the room more comfortable and welcoming for parents and families at these very difficult times.
You can reach Shonagh Gibb, Early Pregnancy Nurse Counsellor at Poole Hospital in the Early Pregnancy Unit on 01202 448432.
Memory Album Workshop
In September 2004 S.P.R.I.N.G. held the very first Memory Album Workshop. The idea was simple. To assist parents in creating their own personal and very special album for all their keepsakes. These keepsakes might include scans, photos, hand and footprints, poems or anything that the individual parents wanted to include. The memory album workshops are open to anyone who has lost a baby under any circumstances and at time, even if a parent has little or nothing in the way of scans, footprints or photos, with specialist creative help on hand anyone wanting to preserve cherished memories is able to create a memory album for their special baby. These workshops are held in the comfort of Sally’s home, with a small group of no more than eight people. For further information please contact us
